The Road to Trier - 9/1-9/2 2014

We had a wonderful visit in Munich but it was time to head to Trier to meet up with our group. We did this in two phases - first to Frankfurt via the high speed ICE (eye-see-ee) taking the 11:00 am train. The ride took about 3 1/2 hours and this baby could fly! We hit speeds of up to 260kph (180mph) and faster.

We spent the night in Frankfurt and caught the morning regional express, not quite as fast but very comfortable.

We had to transfer to a local train in Koblenz with our schedule allowing only 11 minutes between transfers. However our Frankfurt train was 5 minutes late and so we barely made our connection and had to run from one platform to the other. Whew!

This train was definitely a local and packed with people, suitcases, bicycles and dogs. The view was spectacular though as we meandered through small towns through the Mosel Valley and along the river. So many people riding bicycles and lots of campers and riverboat cruises. This valley is famous for the vineyards and because of the river access has lots of castles and villages. Looked like a great place for a bicycle tour.
