Riding in Italy - First day of hills! 9/21/2014

Riding the cobbles!

We had out first big ride yesterday through picturesque villages and up, and up, and UP and down many hills. My cold is finally gone but I am paying the price for not riding for over three weeks and schnitzeling, kugeling and struedeling (and lots of beer) on our tour. The mind is ready but the legs are weak!

However, I did manage to stay with the group as we did a 60 mile jaunt up and over many hills, some with as much as 12-14% grades. All rides leave from the sea up into the hillsides.
Here's our group.

Motorcycle racing is very popular in Italy and the champions are almost rock stars. Valentino Rossi is one of the all time greats, here is what it says about him on a fan website.
Now regarded as one of the all-time greats, the charismatic Rossi is both a crowd puller and a crowd favorite. Racing in number 46, as his famous father did, he holds more records than any other rider. With six world championships he has conquered the 125cc, 250cc and 500cc championships.

With that said he apparently has made a lot of money and we rode by his own personal race track, check out.
So up and down we continued through lovely and charming hill towns and arrived at the small and lovely beach town of Pesaro. Love that Italian cappuccino.

We were lucky to see a road rally of Benelli cafe racers, complete with a police  escort a few times on our ride, they looked like they were having as least as much fun as we were.

When returned at 3:00 we had a nice lunch, took showers and strolled down to the beach and walked down to the town of Riccioni, which is a happening place on a Sunday night. We hit the pedestrian walkway and joined the crowd a so we wandered around. I saw this cat sitting on a gentleman's lap - too cute and what cat could be cooler or more relaxed?
