Today we decided to do some local touring and took a train a few miles to Carouge, a small town outside of Geneva. It was described in the guidebook as a quaint shopping area in a revitalized district with charming boutiques. And yes it was just like that and a bit of a yawn.
So before we fell asleep we walked over to the farmers market where there were colorful booths filled with lots of fresh veggies, fruits, nuts and cheeses. I bought a mixture of nuts and dried fruit and we decided to head back to the historic district to see if we could get a photo at the flower clock.
We saw some colorful people wandering the boulevards and LOTS of high-end watch stores.
AND we got a picture at the flower clock along with this photo of "Mr. Six-pack Abs." Hey, don't blame me Bob, Sandy made me snap the pictures. 😇
After a quick bite for lunch we high-tailed it back to the park for the already visited (earlier this week) gelato vendor and sat on a park bench and people-watched until the Patek Phillipe watch museum opened at 2:00.
Patek Phillipe Museum is noble and prestigious private museum mapping the history of luxury watchmaking since 16th century up to present. There is huge collection of precious clocks and watches that make the visit of museum an artistic experience. Unfortunately they do not allow cameras. So no photos of the magnificent timepieces displayed. Only us at the front door waiting to enter.
The displays provide descriptions and the history of clocks in Geneva, dating back to 15th century. You can see how the clocks were changing and developing over time. At the beginning, the clocks were full of religious ornaments, only for men. Only later they became more serious ones with more simple designs and for women as well.
There are hundreds of watches from the 1500's (yes there were actually watches then!) as well as the history of the company from the18th till 21st century. The museum houses the most diverse types of watches, unique hand painted timepieces, clocks, decorative, wall, metronomes, clocks with the times of the whole word etc. My friend Stu would still be there drooling over collection if he were here.
Now we are all here and after exhausting ourselves by walking over 32 miles in four days, we'll be off tomorrow to start the bicycle adventure. There are 25 of us on this grand adventure. What a great looking, and very excited group of folks. CHEERS!
