Switzerland - We have arrived!!!

Good morning from Switzerland! Sandy and I, and all of our luggage made it all the way from Peoria, AZ USA to Geneva, Switzerland. We had a few hitches getting here, but nothing serious.

It Is good to know that the security is tight at the airports and they are checking everything thoroughly. Both Sandy and I got our backpacks pulled apart before boarding the flight for the first leg of our journey to Heathrow in London. Apparently carbon fiber bicycle shoes with metal cleats and bicycle seats with metal rails sound an alert. This was not a quick check either, once one sounds the alarm they remove everything from your bag. Good thing we got there early.

Our flight was delayed and since it was an evening flight, we ate dinner at the airport prior to boarding. Good thing too as dinner did not get served until around 9:30 pm. Sandy and I bought our airline tickets in January and got a great rate World Class Premiere seats which gives one a bit more leg room, wider seats with a footrest and a few other amenities. Nice seats!

We both managed to sleep for about four or five hours so overall we did well. We were a bit concerned about our connection in London as we only had 90 minutes between flights, but it was easy-breezy as we just followed the signs and caught the shuttle between terminals. Sandy got caught at security again as they checked her iPad but we made it through and found a Starbucks and met up with friends David and Milly Johnson.

Heathrow is one BUSY and CROWDED airport!

We caught our flight into Geneva, parted ways with Milly and Dave, as they were off to France for wine tasting. They both enjoyed the connecting flight and took time to settle into vacation mode.

Sandy and I picked up our bags and caught the train right into the city. Finding the hotel was a breeze with our HERE WEGO APP that took us right to the front door of our hotel.

BICYCLE RENTALS RIGHT BY THE HOTEL

We got situated in our hotel and went out for a quick sandwich and were delighted to return to the hotel for showers and some sleep. Off to bed at around 9:30 pm and with the help of some melatonin manage to sleep most of the night 'til around 5:00 this morning.

Just got news that British Airways computers are down and it appears some of our friends leaving AZ may be delayed. Keeping our fingers crossed for them.

Off to explore Geneva!

From Sandy: so far, International travel has been marvelous.  I do recommend that everyone take anything suspicious out of the carry on bag, as well as have all liquids in a separate plastic bag, out of the carry on.  They will have to take everything out, as Gail said, once something triggers your bag.  Loved the flight, which started with a glass of champagne, goodie bag of blanket, socks, eye cover, head phones, toothbrush, etc.  Also, make sure you do not get on the #1 train if you have a #2 ticket, as you will be asked to stand inbetween trains.  Thank goodness it was only about a 5 min train ride to Geneva.  Nice hotel.  Looking forward to touring Geneva today with tour-master Gail.

Great trip. Thanks for blazing the trail for the rest of us. Looks like Scotts will just be an hour late into Heathrow.

Glad you made it safely. I generally avoid Heathrow unless I have no choice, it is a crazy busy place. If I have to pass through there I try to give myself 4 hours between flights.
