Day 4 - Rest Day in Wengen - 913/2016

Ummmm, rest day - really? After doing yesterday's laundry some of us decided to explore the Wengen area. Billed as an easy hike we started with a tram ride from Wengen to Mannlichen.

We started our journey on the Royal Walk that was a serious uphill but provided a spectacular panoramic view. All of us were very grateful that we did not have to ride our bikes up this one!

We also visited with a few bovine that lined the road and provided hikers with lovely greetings and a serenade of bells along the Royal Walk.

WENDY HELD COURT WITH A SPECIAL SELECT FEW

HERE ARE THE MOUNTAINS  THE (L/R) EIGER (OGRE), MONCH (MONK) AND THE JUNGFRAU (YOUNG FRAULINE)

THIS IS THE WATCH I BOUGHT ON OUR LAST SWITZERLAND TRIP - I took it back to remind me I really don't need to buy another - really Bob!

We walked the rest of the way on a lovely path taking photos along the way.

We had a quick stop for lunch and enjoyed the view.

The entire walk was about 6.5 miles door to door and totally worth the effort.

We took the train back from Mannlichen to Wengen and met this lovely gentleman and hiker. He and his friends had spent the morning hiking the Jungfrau and were returning from ther adventure. OH to be young! He was wearing a Trilogy t-shirt so of course I had to have a picture.

Back in Wengen we had some well-deserved ice cream and a did a bit of window shopping, finding a t-shirt that just called my name as a I passed by the window.

Then I found this lovely chocolate. Not sure if it will make it home, but it is made right here in Wengen.

We also discovered that our hotel is a historic Swiss and Eurpeon hotel built in 1895 and still lovely.

Tomorrow we leave early to take the train back down to Lauderbrunnen and pick up our bikes where we will start our ride to Lucerne. We are hoping the wonderful weather we have experienced so far continues.

Yes beware of active seniors on a cycling rest day. Their definition of a rest is a 6.5 mile hike in the mountains. I can hear the cow bells from here. Hope th weather holds for your amazing adventure. Soooooo FOMO.

After all the hard riding you have put in a rest day is in order. It would appear that you did rest, so you did good.
