Miles ridden = 62 (99 km), elevation climbed 2,935 feet
We all started out in good humor, even taking a photo of us in our New Zealand cyclist kits. They really grow some mighty big fruit here!
And now for the WAA (wandering around aimlessly) story. We began in Tarras and started down the road towards our destination. However, we all made a wrong turn that took us on a big loop right back to our start in Tarras, adding an additional eight km to our ride (5 miles).
However this detour was on a lovely road and we were lucky enough to meet this young woman from NY who was herding cattle. When asked how she got to NZ she said "on an airplane" - nuff said.
From our starting place (again) we rode another 32 km for lunch and yet another group photo opportunity. Love those New Zealand jerseys!
Then we headed up Lindis Pass and I made it almost all the way up to the summit but my legs were tired and add to that a nice steady headwind and traffic - I called "uncle" and took a lift in the van 1.5k from the top. I had just had enough!
I did ride all the way down the other side of the mountain and completed a respectable 99 km of riding, just missed that last one km. Overall a great day!

Hi Gail, glad to read another segment. Your jersey really is wonderful looking ;). No riots in Phoenix while you are gone...in case you were worried. Hot today and tomorrow, mid80's. Hope you were able to get lots of great things in Queenstown...I saw the ring ;). Happy riding, hope tomorrow is all downhill.
Riding too many flat road around Phoenix will kill you hill climbing ability alright. We need to get you out to Yarnell Hill a few more time so that last 1.5 kms doesn't defeat you. Looks like a great trip. I am glad you are finally getting some great weather. Great blog -- Thanks for all the work it takes to put it together.
